BRE Global are owners of BREEAM and CEEQUAL which are the world’s first and leading sustainability assessment methods for master-planning projects, infrastructure and built assets. They address a number of lifecycle stages such as New Construction, Refurbishment and In-Use. Globally there are more than 590,000 BREEAM certified developments, and almost 2,300,000 buildings registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990. CEEQUAL has over 350 certified infrastructure projects and over 800 projects since its launch in 2003. Both Schemes are robust, of independent governance and third party accredited.
BREEAM and CEEQUAL inspire asset owners, developers, designers and creators to excel, innovate and make effective use of resources. The focus on sustainable value and efficiency makes BREEAM and CEEQUAL certified assets attractive investments and generates sustainable environments that enhance the well-being of the people who live and work in them.
The assessment process evaluates the procurement, design, construction and operation of a development against targets that are based on performance benchmarks. Assessments are carried out by independent, licensed assessors, and developments rated and certified on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding.
BREEAM and CEEQUAL measure sustainable value in a series of categories, ranging from energy to ecology. Each of these categories addresses the most influential factors, including low impact design and carbon emissions reduction; design durability and resilience; adaption to climate change; and ecological value and biodiversity protection. Within every category, developments score points – called credits – for achieving targets, and their final total determines their rating.
As a certification body BRE Global maintains an open, accountable governance structure. The operation of all their assurance activities is overseen by an independent Governing Body and a stakeholder group for peer and market review.
“Using BREEAM means we focus not only on the buildings’ initial design and construction phase, but we also keep in mind the best, most efficient maintenance and upkeep once the facilities are in use.” Rosa Lopez, Environmental Sustainability Manager, Neinver.
“Using CEEQUAL has been instrumental in driving performance forward and sets the bar for other contractors we used to follow” Mike de Silva, Sustainability Manager, Crossrail
