Multifamily Impact Council

Industry association Industry Partner

The Multifamily Impact Council is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to establishing industry standards and best practices to increase the flow of global impact capital and create more affordable and sustainable rental properties in the United States.

The Multifamily Impact Council is responsible for maintaining the Multifamily Impact Framework, the industry’s only evidence-based set of common impact standards and reporting guidelines for the multifamily properties in the United States. The Framework establishes minimum impact thresholds and key performance indicators across seven principles: Affordability; Resident Engagement; Housing Stability; Economic Health & Mobility; Health & Wellness; Climate & Resiliency; and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

The framework promotes transparency, credibility, and scalability. This helps organizations set tangible impact goals, quantify the social and environmental impact of their investments, and better understand the connection between their impact practices and stable, long-term financial returns. The Multifamily Impact Framework is free to use and can be downloaded here (https://multifamilyimpactcouncil.org/adopt-the-multifamily-impact-framework/).

The Multifamily Impact Council provides additional value by supporting research that quantifies how specific impact practices that drive environmental and social outcomes support improved financial returns. We further support research that explores how these specific best practices can be replicated at-scale. The Foundation was created in 2024. Its first research report will be published in 2025.

The Multifamily Impact Council also offers a platform for its members to learn, build relationships, share ideas and grow together. Because our members represent stakeholder groups from across the multifamily industry, we are uniquely positioned to support impact professionals by providing ongoing opportunities to share resources and exchange ideas. The Multifamily Impact Council is open to any organization who shares our belief that healthy, financially stable renters create healthy, financially stable properties. More about MIC membership can be found here (https://multifamilyimpactcouncil.org/become-a-member/).

The MIC is proud to partner with GRESB to drive standards alignment and benchmarking throughout the multifamily, and adjacent, real estate industries.
