Purpose 

Water is one of the basic components of all life on this planet and is essential in order to sustain it. However the amount of fresh water is limited and its quality is a big concern in the operations of all manufacturing/service industry businesses. In striving to become more water efficient Lemon Tree's objective is to conserve water through implementation of new techniques, by using more water-efficient fixtures and through storm collection i.e. rain water harvesting as well as the use of grey water for flushing, irrigation, air-conditioning and general washing of pathways and car park areas.

Approach 

We have installed 2 Ultra Filtration Plants one each at Red Fox Hotel, HITEC City, Hyderabad and Red Fox Hotel-Delhi Airport, New Delhi. In both the hotels we are utilizing output from the UF plant for WC flushing, cooling towers and for irrigation use, washing floors, etc.

We have installed UF Plants at both the places for following reasons:

  • Initiative for water conservation on a sustainable basis
  • Able to meet the daily water demand in both the hotels
  • The cost of buying water (to meet the consumer demand in the hotel) has been reduced and we are able to manage the water consumption on a daily basis.
  • We are planning to put 6 more UF Plants in other hotels in this FY 2014-2015

The recycling and reuse of the treated effluent directly conserves natural resources and is a step towards sustainable development. Installation of advanced treatment methods along with recycling arrangement builds goodwill and makes the hotel industry more sustainable and eco-friendly.

(There may be slight increase due to dosing of coagulant and  flocculent, but the same will be marginal)

“Our objective is to conserve water and reduce daily water consumption/demand by using energy efficient and water efficient fixtures in our hotels. This includes installing a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) on the premises of our hotels and utilizing reusable water (post treatment) for air conditioning (cooling tower), flushes in all bathrooms, cleaning/washing of floor and for watering plants on the premises.”
