Purpose of the project

Topic: Biodiversity - The purpose of this project is to protect ecosystems in the local region, to raise awareness on the importance of coexistence with nature among local residents and to promote town development in harmony with nature.

Approach

At the AEON MALL Toin, a shopping mall opened in 2013, Rain Gardens to recycle rainwater, and Fureai Park to provide comfortable space for local fauna and flora have been established. At Rain Gardens, the rainwater is collected and seeped into the soil for the use by the garden plants.
At the AEON MALL Tamadaira Woods, a shopping mall opened in 2014, about 50 trees have been transplanted or preserved as a green zone, and a biotope has been introduced on the roof.

Results

AEON MALL Toin’s measures for biodiversity at are highly evaluated and it became the first shopping mall to acquire the ABINC Certification from the Association for Business Innovation in harmony with Nature and Community (ABINC). In 2014, AEON MALL Tamadaira Woods also acquired the ABINC Certification.
AEON MALL will continuously promote community development in harmony with nature.

Our company has been developing shopping centers in harmony with nature by minimizing the environmental load and protecting the local ecology. AEON MALL Toin and Tamadaira Woods successfully obtained “ABINC Certifications” from Japan Business Initiative for Biodiversity (JBIB) as the first cases for shopping malls due to appreciation of our initiatives on biodiversity.
