Purpose of the project:
The Barangaroo Skills Exchange (BSX) is a learning hub situated on the Barangaroo South construction site. The BSX was established in partnership with the Western Sydney Institute of TAFE, delivering a range of practical skilling and nationally recognised training programs which meet the demand for an onsite sustainability-skilled workforce.
Lend Lease also successfully secured $7.3M funding over 3 years from the Federal Government’s Skills Connect Program, in partnership with the Construction Services and Property Industry Skills Council (CPSISC). The funding is to deliver 4 Programs:
- WELL workplace literacy,
- National Workforce Development Fund Certificate III+ training Investing in Experience retraining mature age workers (50yrs+),
- Apprentice Mentoring.
Training programs focus on beyond compliance skilling and include: Cert IV Environmental Management; Asbestos / Hazardous materials awareness training; Waste Minimisation; Drug and Alcohol Awareness; Mental Health & Suicide Prevention; Trade related training, Dogging, Rigging, Elevated Work Platform, Working at Heights; WHS Accreditation, Musculo-skeletal awareness & manual handling; Computer Skills
The BSX will evolve as a positive legacy for lifelong learning for the Barangaroo South precinct and eventually become a professional development and community education facility.
